It was less than 10 days ago that I published this post. In that time, something completely unexpected has happened to us. Have you ever experienced a "God moment"? It has happened before in my life and I am absolutely positive He was at work here again.
I have been talking with a mortgage lender since the beginning of January, trying to figure out the timing of our long-awaited house hunt. Already feeling discouraged with the inventory, I put off putting together all of our financial documents that I would need to submit in order to be considered for preapproval. IF, I should say, we should be so blessed.
A little over a week ago, I felt a nudge to move forward with the paperwork. I pulled it together and brought it with me to work because I had decided I was going to hand deliver it to the lender. On my way out, I asked my friends in the office to say a quick prayer over the paperwork. (Which was partly for fun, but really I was quite serious.) Working at your church sure has its advantages!
We received the call on Friday night, what we had been waiting for - our preapproval! All of our hard work through the short sale and afterwards had put us into a great position. That night, we took another look at the listings in our elementary boundary and surrounding areas. Nothing. In fact, of the five houses that were for sale near our kids school - three had offers, one was a HUD home, and the other is something we looked at and were not considering.
But on Saturday, the day after the pre-approval, we were driving home from basketball when we noticed for the first time, an open house sign. It was very small and for a construction company we don't usually see in our area. We drove to the house, where we saw a sign for an open house taking place the following day. More importantly, we saw a house on a cul-de-sac, with a third stall garage, in a neighborhood within our school boundary, and right up the street from our rental. One we had never seen listed before.
The next day, we walked through the door at 1:00 and into a home that I knew right then and there was made just for us. Timed just for us. Held, just for us. In a market heating up faster than my armpits when I catch sight of Ryan Gosling, we NEVER expected to see a home in this condition, in our neighborhood, and in our price range. But here she was, waiting just for us.
We put an offer in the following morning and had a signed offer the next day. Since then, we've passed inspection and have a closing date! Which means...we have a new baby to take care of:
My good friend posted this just two days after we signed the offer:

I've spent hours, days, even weeks thinking about the challenges we have faced in the past three years. I am here to tell you that no matter what challenges you face, there ARE better things coming your way! Just like my friend that I mentioned. She may be facing a new season in her life, but I just know it is going to be a great one of growth and success for her.
I feel blessed to be able to share this happy news with you today.
Thank you for your encouragement and support of Dwell on Joy, which is, another reminder of better things to come.

We are kind of in the same boat. In 2009 my husband finished up his last deployment with the National Guard. He returned to his civilian job and found that things had started to crumble within the factory. 6 weeks later he was told he didn't have a job and we are still trying to pick up the pieces. Thankfully he was able to find a job but the pay has left us hanging on for dear life. We are still praying for THAT job and praying that God has something in store for us.
Thank you for your encouraging words and CONGRATULATIONS on your new home and the many memories you have there.
