The most beautiful snow fell the other day.The kind of snow where little, beautiful, individual snowflakes pile up on top of one another and sparkle in the sunlight. The kind of snowflakes you have to slow down and stop in order to notice.
My family has had the blessings of health, happiness, and adventure this past year. I celebrated ten beautiful years with my husband. I saw my children grow, learn, and love. Personally, I found creativity within myself through this blog. I deepened my relationships and spirituality, and found direction and felt a greater purpose in my new part-time job.
I am grateful for these things. So very grateful.
But the events of Friday, December 14th are breaking my heart. Life is so incredibly short. I walked through the doors of my own kids elementary school that Friday. I read books to my own son's 1st grade classroom, filled with smiling, hopeful 6 and 7 year olds. I think of their little faces and feel sick to think of what happened in another classroom across the country that very same morning. To teachers. To other people's beautiful babies.
I'm writing today to wish you a wonderful Holiday. It's time for me to slow down and savor the precious time with family that I have coming up in the next couple weeks. I'm looking forward to a wonderful New Year, and I know your's will be too :)
So go out in life and enjoy your snowflakes, friend.
I'll see you again in 2013!

Beautiful post. You brought tears to my eyes, which have been coming ever so easily the past few days. It's amazing how quickly perspectives can change. I am stopped fighting with Grace over what she can wear, she has been wearing Christmas dresses for 4 days in a row...and I am embracing it, I am feeling blessed and lucky and know how easily, this could have been me. Sigh.
