Late this afternoon, while all of you are starting your weekends with a cool glass of lemonade in hand or perhaps an adult beverage with friends at happy hour, I will be at the movie theater with ten 8 year olds. Yes, ten. It's the premiere of the third installment of the Diary of a Wimpy kid movies. My oldest owns all seven of the books in the series, and a couple other "do it yourself" books. In case you didn't know, it's all the rage in elementary school. I was so happy to see that the movie was premiering just two weeks after his birthday.
So to celebrate, we're heading to the movies to see the highly anticipated book turned movie! (Actually, it's the third and fourth books smooshed into one movie . I'm assuming the lead actors new lower voice may have had something to do with it.) Afterwards, they are taking the kids into the projector room to see how all of the movies are shown.
For the party favors, I purchased these plastic popcorn tubs from the dollar store. I filled them with gold "grass" and placed popcorn in them in the form of Cracker Jacks. {Who doesn't love those things, especially the "prize"!?!} This week I came across Sugar Cookie Bark over at Crazy for Crust, and decided they would be a perfect addition to the favor containers, since we are not able to have cake or cupcakes. Online, I found a free printable {that you can personalize and make your own wimpy kid} from www.wimpykid.com, added text, and printed out 4x6 copies. I placed each piece of bark in a sandwich bag, folded in half, folded the top down, and stapled the paper to it. I also printed off larger blank copies for post-party thanks yous.
Now I'm off to eat one of the greatest inventions of all time: movie theater popcorn. A salt hogs dream.
What is your favorite theater snack?

What thoughtful party favors. I am not sure why I am surprised since you always put together the best gifts, party favors should be no exception. Enjoy your outing with 10 boys. I love that you'll take them to see how the movie is run in the projection room after. Brilliant!
