A couple weeks ago, I was invited by one of my favorite blogs to create an 'Easter Egg' project to share over at It's Overflowing. To see that feature, click here. I learned my brain works best when someone plants the 'seed' in my brain {aka the Easter Egg} and let's me run with it! Hopefully it will help me to be more creative altogether!
If you missed it, here's how you make these inexpensive beauties!
And if you don't have any scrap fabric,
you can cheat and make Easy Plastic Easter Egg Garland instead. :)
You will need:
Large or Small Plastic Easter Eggs {99 cents a pack}
Scrap or Jelly Roll Fabric, cut into thin strips
Hot Glue Gun and glue sticks
Twine if making garland
Hot glue the egg together. Place a zig-zag line of hot glue {about 2 inches at a time} across the egg as shown. Place the strip on the hot glue and pull tight as you press it into the hot glue so the fabric will lie flat.
Continue to hot glue strips of fabric onto the egg in different directions. Overlapping them will give your project an organic feel. Add fabric strips until the plastic no longer shows.
If you'd like to use your eggs to make garland {for your fireplace, perhaps?}, take a thin 1-2 inch strip of fabric and create a loop. Hot glue the loop to the tops of the eggs and string onto twine.
Drape across your fireplace mantel or your banister, like me! I noticed the twine pieces would twirl on their own, so I tied a few strands where the garland was attached to the banister.
You can also leave them as is and...
Pile them into your favorite decorative bowl.
Place them around your Easter tablescape or buffet.
Use a sharpie, write names on them, and use as place cards during your Easter brunch.
Links to other garland projects:
as mentioned above, and
where you need to beware of my more amateur picture quality! But you could make any seasonal picture garland using this idea!

ReplyDeleteHmmm...cheap plastic eggs or beautifully decorated fabric covered eggs. I'll take the beautifully decorated fabric covered eggs. Nicely done!

Love it! I turned my strips into a big ol' ball, but this is so much more fun :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute! And I must really mean it because I think great Easter decorations can be a little hard to come by! (Which is why I have ZERO!) But this, I could do! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to make some fabric eggs and this is a great idea on how to do it!!

love this! I was thinking about fabric eggs the other day, my mom used to collected the eggs that pantyhose came in (do you remember those l'eggs?) and then we'd use left over fabric and glue it on... it was a little more helter skelter I think, she let us kids help! :-) This has me wanting to give it a try... we are traveling this year but maybe in the future...
ReplyDeletep.s. pinned it too
ReplyDeleteWhile i used to be at the shop I noticed these containers that were flat and clear. They were referred to as album cases. i believed they might be good to store the clay in.
